works as a professional artist, teacher and
proprietor with over 30 years of
experience. Her showcase of skills includes weaving, surface design, dyes, spinning, felt making,
watercolors, oil painting, and drawing. In addition to creating her own commissioned works, she
has worked as a professional fabric weaver and rug maker.
In 1980 Lou founded the San Francisco Fiber Company, a weaving and spinning supply store,
dedicated to supporting the textile arts in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Lou teaches privately as well as classes in textile arts for Walnut Creek’s Civic Arts
program, Piedmont Yarn and Apparel, and the Mendocino Arts Center. Lou holds a BFA in textiles
from San Francisco State University.
"My goal is for the student to become comfortable and skilled with the tools and technical
processes involved in the fiber arts. I encourage them to explore and to inject their own creativity."
